Following on from her large-scale solo exhibition in 2017, I was in charge of the overall graphic design for Shirai Yumie solo exhibition “Wriggling, Breathing, and Rolling.”
The large circular canvases that form the centrepiece of the exhibition, measuring roughly 2 metres in diameter, have been transformed into key visuals and large pieces of fabric that flutter about the venue.
There will also be a full range of goods on offer, including Shirai’s standard merchandise, mugs, several types of badges, newly created clear files and a booklet full of his passion!
The works are impressive, but if you look at the tiniest details, you’ll find new discoveries.
The works are overwhelmingly powerful, but when you look at the smallest details, you can discover something new.
As I’m thinking about starting out as a ceramic artist myself, I was touched by Shirai’s passion, his conviction, his strength; his freedom, his joy, his softness. I was thrilled to feel the joy and excitement of creating. I hope to remember this feeling and bring it back to ceramics.
